Republicans Are Shameless Cowards

I’ll begin this blog with a tweet by John Fugelsang: “Healthcare Republicans just took healthcare away from American children with cancer but it’s ok they’re so pro-life.

So the House achieves a NARROW victory by repealing Affordable Healthcare Act. 217 spineless Republicans in the House voted yes. In my heart of hearts, I don’t believe a single Republican who voted YES did so in good faith. Pandering, partisanship, and sheer cowardice prompted these sycophants to vote YES . Anyone and everyone who knows anything at all about the healthcare system in this country knows that a repeal of Obamacare will be absolutely disastrous to ALL living in this country. The consequences are unfathomably far-reaching.

I’m just going to itemize a few salient effects:

·        23 million people in this country will immediately lose coverage.

·        And of course the super-rich will get their huge tax cuts – somewhere along the lines of $195,000 – or a total of $2.8 billion and on the flip side, the poor and the middle class will lose tax cuts of around the same amount – $2.9 billion actually.

·        The Affordable Care Act and Universal coverage will be replaced with what our illiterate President says is “something terrific.”

·        Tens of thousands of people will DIE due to lack of access to medical care. The Trumps and everybody else in congress have no skin in the game. Their healthcare coverage is not in jeopardy + that juicy tax cut!!!

·        About 1.4 million young adults who are on their parents plan will be gone.

·        12.3 million people on Medicaid – also goodbye.

·        This is scary. The pre-existing condition ban will be lifted which will result in an estimated increase of 52 million more people uninsured.

·        Premiums invariably will skyrocket, as high as 50% within 1st year of repeal and doubling afterwards.

·        Here is something people don’t think about. No healthcare also = slashing jobs – about 2.6 million people currently working in the healthcare industry will be jobless.

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think? It’s not over yet, so be hopeful. It’s not going to be a cakewalk for the republicans to get it through the Senate.

The Irrationality of Nationalism

May 2nd, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for nationalism is stupid

The way I see it there are essentially three existential threats to our survival as a species:

1.     Climate Change.

2.     Nuclear War or Catastrophe.

3.     Artificial General Intelligence.

This growing trend of Nationalism, intolerance, and authoritarianism beginning with our simple-minded president is trending now and spreading throughout Europe.  This notion that America,  France or Austria are subordinating their best interests to outsiders is absurd.  We ought to be building NATO and economic unions not dismantling them. We must have cooperation, regulation, or some sort of governance on a global level if we’re going to evolve and flourish as a species in this day and age in light of these 3 very real aforementioned threats.

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think?

Shelly Kagan’s Lecture Series on Death

If you’re secular and you dread the thought of death, then this is the lecture series to watch (provided you have time to watch all 26 lectures). I first saw this about 5 years ago and returned to watch it again and again in its entirety because for me, it taught me that if there is nothing after this life here on Earth, then there is absolutely nothing to be frightened of. I was truly liberated from that crippling fear of non-existence. I had never been happier in my life. But, 3 years ago I had an NDE (Near Death Experience) and I don’t know if it was a glimpse into the afterlife or a trauma-induced hallucination. (I’ll blog about my experience some day. Thus far I’ve been unable to put it into words.) So I’m back to square one again.

Nevertheless, I highly recommend this. Shelly Kagan covers everything here. Not only did he mitigate my fear of death, I learned how to better think like a philosopher when confronted with any difficult circumstance, situation or issue.

Must – see!!!

World Population Clock

How do they actually know all this??? It’s all statistical analysis but it has been proven to be monumentally precise. I’m looking at the births and deaths just today – which is mind-boggling; About 2 births a second and 1 death per second. So if you really look at the big picture….well, we’re individually pretty small and insignificant.

Donald’s Reality

Trump is a pathological liar – everyone knows this. What’s disconcerting is that he’s not at all subtle about his tall tales. He is so despicably obnoxious and arrogant that he blatantly lies to 100’s of millions of people and he’s completely shameless about it. He truly is in his own little fantasy world – Donald Trump reality. Manboy Lies and doesn’t give a FUCK!!!  Check this list of outrageous fabrications and this is just in 3 months since he became president.

The 70 year –old Man-Boy

I’ve been saying this (I know, many other people have been too) that our President, Donald J. Trump, is a little boy in a man’s body. He’s still trapped inside that Freudian stage of development where a person thinks he’s the center of the universe. I’m not a parent and I’m certainly not an authority of which, but I’ve blogged about how spoiling a child or allowing a person to have all the toys in the world is BAD for you. Trump is and always has been an over privileged boy who never grew up. To his credit, I certainly admit that he seems to have an excellent work ethic but he also is what I like to call a person who is a connoisseur of vacationing and luxury – always the best for Donald. Btw, sure he shows up to work every day but the – “Populist President” or representative of the people or working class folk is absurd. No, Trump never worked in a coal mine but he condescendingly says he understands them and will save their jobs.

When I was a child, I thought everybody was a Catholic or Christian just like me. I also thought that this country was always right. We’re the good guys and everybody else is “other”. Us against them. Then you learn about the world and you realize that no, not everybody is Christian. Not everyone has the same culture as you have. Not everyone has the same beliefs as you do., etc. In other words, you grow up and become an adult.  Trump sadly never has had this revelation. Trump is a textbook narcissist who pathologically believes he’s entitled to all the money and power the world has to offer including the Presidency of the United States.

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think? We’ve all witnessed his temper tantrums and his inability to not get rattled by every slight. Just like a little boy.

Stop!!! Conspiracy Freaks – You’re Making People Crazy!!!

Yes, the internet today is truly the sum of all information and knowledge but it is also full of bullshit and wacky CONSPIRACY THEORIES.  Alex Jones is the King of conspiracy theories followed by our fearless leader – Donald Trump.

Some crazy examples are: “Flat Earthers”, dinosaur deniers, fake moon landings, our own government was behind 9/11 , alien invasion, The illuminati (who btw, have access to the cure for all cancers, but are keeping it for themselves. Too much $$ to be made here.), climate change deniers, Boston Marathon hoax….the list is seemingly endless. However, the most disturbing conspiracy theory of late is the Newtown, Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting Massacre. Here is a copy and paste from Wikipedia. It’s super sinister:

On December 14, 2012, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred. Adam Lanza fatally shot his mother before murdering 20 students and six staff members at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, then committing suicide.[1] A number of fringe figures have promoted conspiracy theories that doubt or dispute what occurred at Sandy Hook. Various conspiracy theorists have claimed, for example, that the massacre was actually orchestrated by the U.S. Government as part of an elaborate plot to promote stricter gun control laws.[2] Other conspiracy theorists, such as Alex Jones, deny that the massacre actually occurred, asserting that it was “completely fake.”[3]

According to Live Science, “No one, regardless of what side of the gun control issue they are on, can deny that guns played a key role in the Sandy Hook killings. So the conspiracy theorists must instead challenge the claim that the attack even occurred. They believe it’s all a hoax to scare people into supporting more gun control and a step toward an outright repeal of the Second Amendment.” They also found that the vast majority of evidence used by conspiracy theorists to support the concept that Sandy Hook was a hoax is contradictory.[17] also debunked several claims of alleged United States government involvement in the shootings.[7]

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think? I just finished watching a heart-wrenching documentary on Netflix called Newtown and I just finished reading the book ‘Newtown’ by Matthew Lysiak. I’m going to spend some time writing a few blogs about what happened and how the community is dealing with this unspeakable tragedy 4 years later as well as what I learned about the severely mentally – ill  killer , Adam Lanza.

Trump’s Steaks

This Trump steak commercial is vintage “scam infomercial”. You know –  a guy reading a bullshit script to you at 2 am. Just think, this silly con man is now our president – lol. The writing of this commercial is soooooo laughable i.e “tremendous”, “greatest”, “nothing better”, “best of the best”,” Trump quality”, and the most hysterical part is when he states, not unlike a 5 year – old, that “…he knows best because steak is his favorite all-time food – lol. Prepare to laugh HARD.

WhaDaYaThink? What do you think? The same imbecilic, disjointed delivery is used when he addresses congress when he’s reading a teleprompter.

Horses of Sticks

Skies to the West are bleeding,

Toes gripping an Eastern shore,

The sea thrashes about the ankles,

And Heaven’s an open door.

But the danger lies in believing

We’re rooted to sandy soil.

Oh, the rush of a golden nugget

And snakes that don’t recoil.

Fading like Wrangler blue jeans,

Broken like boots that are scuffed,

A cowboy knows when he’s beaten

Calling the canyon’s bluff.

So gone are the days of Roy Rogers,

Tonto and Rin Tin Tin,

Galloping into the sunset

On horses of sticks and whim.

The Agony in The Garden

April 14th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Without question, my favorite Bible moment in the Gospels is when Jesus is in The Garden of Gethsemane. I thought this scene (Though the movie ‘Passion…”as a whole failed i.e. too much emphasis on the gratuitous violence visuals – like 90% of the film) was absolutely beautifully, powerfully, and poignantly depicted.  This is the Jesus I hold near and dear to my heart because you see and viscerally feel the HUMAN Jesus – scared, confused, and uncertain – like us, mere mortals. I’m moved more by the human (perhaps even flawed) side not the supernatural stuff i.e. miracles, etc.

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think? My second favorite moment is when Jesus is dying on the cross and he says “My Father, My Father, why have you forsaken me?”

Here’s a clip…the soundtrack makes it ever so awesome.
