Myth: Separation of Chuch and State

April 14th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for separation of church and state

Wow – I’ve been citing “separation of church and state” from the Constitution ever since I can remember and the fact of the matter is it’s not worded that way. I was wrong all this time. The first Amendment simply states Freedom of Religion and there is an establishment clause that says that government shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. So it’s not necessarily anti-religion, rather it’s the government not sponsoring any “one type” of religion. INTERESTING!

Now considering myself a Universalist and no longer an Atheist or just a Christian for that matter, I feel better about our founding fathers. When I was in “atheist mode” I used to always pontificate about how the old-time framers of the Constitution were all really atheists. In fact, the opposite was probably true – they were believers of a sort. Check out this quote “A union of government and religion tends to destroy government and DEGRADE religion.

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think ? I’m definitely not married to my positions, thoughts, beliefs, opinions, etc. I’d like to think of myself as an extremely open minded person weighing all the best evidence no matter where it leads. And true, though I was quite the strident atheist for some time, I now view the new atheists as quite frankly –ARROGANT and self-righteous in their own intellectually snobbery way! Arrogant in fact to a degree of a ranting and raving lunatic theologian. The truth is NOBODY knows – not the pope, not the new atheists, not Richard Dawkins, not Charles Darwin – NOBODY!!! Yes we now have quantum mechanics, string theory, Higgs Bosom and other science, but we still know virtually nothing about what consciousness is. That obviously leaves room for speculation about whether or not some sort of awareness survives the death of the physical body. I hope so anyway (but only if there’s no such thing as hell – lol. That scares the crap out of me. Those fucken nuns and priests ruined my life! They drilled that fiery hell stuff into my undeveloped child-brain and I STILL – at the age of 53 am terrified of eternal damnation. Don’t you think preaching eternal fiery hell to a child is tantamount to child abuse?)

There’s Not A Damn Thing You Can Do ‘BOUT It !!!

May 31st, 2014 by Michael Tabor

I was actually stupid and naïve enough to think that perhaps, PERHAPS … after the unspeakable horrific Sandy Hook massacre, we, as a society would actually mature and get together as a society to BAN semi – automatic weapons. Well, I am now convinced that even if the children of every single NRA member were viciously gunned down in cold blood, this country would sadly never change.

America loves its guns and even if it means sacrificing his or her very own children, it will never give them up. I personally have given up on trying to do anything about gun laws – it’s an exercise in futility. This Isla Vista “monster” was deemed by the state of CAellrodg sane enough to own firearms, so…

Anyway, WhaDaYaThink ? What do you think ? Our species is completely NUTS and bent on destroying itself, so I guess it’s just a matter of enjoying your time while it lasts.

P.S. – After Sandy Hook, Pres. Obama made a rhetorical statement along the lines of ..”are we defenseless against random gun violence?”  Ummm, I think the answer is abundantly obvious now – YES !!!

Tyler Talks Cats That Kick Butt

May 17th, 2014 by Magdalena Tabor

tyler

Hey! Did you see that awesome news clip about the cat that saved the little boy from the dog attack? Who says CATS can’t be Man’s Best Friend???
This little boy, minding his own business (a rarity in itself), was riding his tricycle in front of his house, when suddenly a nasty little hound comes sneaking up behind him, viciously grabs him off his trike and like a crazed pirana tosses him about like a rag doll.
Here comes the good part…..the kid’s cat charges the dog with all four paws ninja-like, BAM! and the dog goes yelping down the street with the cat in hot pursuit! That cat, Tara’s her name, is one feisty feline. I think I’m in LOVE! (Sorry, Clementine. But you have to admit Tara’s stripes are very appealing). All she needs is the Super Hero cape! I propose they feature her image on band aids alongside Cat Woman.

So…..whadayathink? Everyone needs someone to look up to. Who’s your hero? And don’t say Underdog.

Incarceration: Is That The Answer???

May 1st, 2014 by Michael Tabor

How do we fix an obviously broken system? Frontline, the greatest PBS in-depth documentary television program ever, shared with us jail1the scary truth this week about three facts: 1. It is prodigiously expensive to keep an (alleged) bad guy in jail or prison (wayyyyy more expensive than helping a poor person via welfare for example. It literally costs the state millions of $$’s for each inmate) 2. 90 % of the guys jail2incarcerated are not killers and rapists. In fact, most prisoners have just been dealt a really lousy hand in life. The prisons and jails are full of poor, unskilled, and more often than not – BLACK folks whom society has abandoned and simply tossed away like trash. There are scores of people who would like nothing more than to just blot them out (ummm … whether this is your sentiment or not, the bottom line is that you the taxpayer are paying for their incarceration … an obscene 1 – 2 million dollars per inmate). 3. REHABILITATION is a joke!!! Besides, the majority of our society is more interested in retribution than rehabilitation.
Let me be clear here by stating the obvious: I am an emotional human being who would want nothing less than having anybody who harmed my loved ones, or my cats for that that matter, tarred and feathered & perhaps afterwards burnt at the stake!!! I think most folks are on the same page with me here. This however is not the issue. Most of the people in prison are minorities, incarcerated for drug – related offences, and have had pathetically poor public defenders because they couldn’t afford anyone else. Hence, what you see are two types of justice: one for the rich and one for the poor. Jordan Belfort, the Wall street scoundrel, spent a mere 2 years in a country – club – like prison for stealing 100’s of millions of dollars from hard – working honest businessmen. On the other side of the track, you have poor black or poor white people getting 30 years to life for selling weed or smoking crack. How fair is that??? Incidentally, Jordan Belfort, if you read his memoir, smoked more crack and snorted just as much cocaine as any poor person doing life. The difference is that because Belfort hired the greatest attorneys $$ can buy, he’s now free as a bird, and though he’s been banned from trading securities for life, he basically has most of his money back selling books and giving motivational speeches.
So WhaDaYathink ? What do you think ? I hope you can get this link (Unfortunately, I’m having a problem posting the link. If you have time, just google Frontline and watch the most recent episode called ‘Prison State’)

How can you not weep after seeing this insane injustice??? It’s hard to fathom that these appallingly poor people, with no family structure whatsoever, and years of unimaginable abuse have any sort of chance in this life.

False Confessions Are Shockingly Not Uncommon

January 2nd, 2014 by Michael Tabor

Would you confess to committing a crime (not just a misdemeanor but also a felony like murder or rape) that you didn’t do? Certainly not !!! One might say, that most coercion1sane and rational people would not under any conditions admit to a crime of which they had absolutely no part and I agree, however, there is a phenomena called interrogation – induced false confessions which sadly and outrageously has led to the indictment, conviction, incarceration, and even death of completely innocent people e.g. mentally – ill, uneducated, poor, etc. YES, indeed it happens all too frequently and the bullying and coercive tactics of law enforcement officials has to cease immediately!!!

I’m certainly not suggesting that cops want to arrest innocent people, however there is unspeakable pressure coming from the press, public, and everyone else to get the bad guy ASAP, hence interrogators will resort to the most despicable tactics e.g. Sleep deprivation, lying to the purported suspects about being released, encouraging suspects to admit to a crime they didn’t commit, etc.
I think the most notorious case is the Central Park jogger case (everyone must see Ken Burns’ ‘Central Park Five’) in which 5 innocent black boys admitted to raping and leaving for dead a woman who was young, white, educated, and worked on Wall Street as an investment banker. The tragedy even prompted the clownish Donald Trump to pay for a full-page ad in the New York Times demanding that the boys be put to death. Fortunately, because of the advent of DNA, the boys were exonerated, but sadly not after having spent many years in prison – years in their prime, which they can never get back.

What I find prodigiously unbelievable is that these false forced confessions are still happening TODAY, 2014 in this country to our own citizens (of course to the poor, uneducated, and the neglected). I don’t have the exact # of these miscarriages of justice but I know it’s substantial. Let’s stop this type of coercive interrogation and call your congressman.
So WhaDaYaThink ? What do you think ? I honestly don’t think that law enforcement wants to “hang” an innocent guy, but when there is pressure, anything can happen.

Bill Belichick is a Heartless Bureaucrat And Tom Brady is A Fool

October 22nd, 2013 by Michael Tabor

bradyandbellic

I was shocked to hear the reaction of both hall famer coach, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, perhaps the greatest quarterback to ever play the game after the ‘Frontline’ special “League of Denial.” Coach Belichick is part of the NFL evil empire whose tenet is in a nutshell “Win for me or drop dead.” Here are the words of Mr. Belichick re: the NFL coaching problem – “First of all, I’m not really familiar with whatever it is you’re referring to, whatever this thing is. But it doesn’t make any difference whether there is or isn’t one going on. We have our protocol with all medical situations, including that one and that’s followed by our medical department, which I’m not a doctor and I don’t think we want me treating patients. What we do in the medical department, that’s medical procedures that honestly I don’t know enough to talk about. But I can say this, there’s nothing more important to a coach than the health of his team. Without a healthy team, you don’t have a team. We try to do everything we can to have our players healthy, to prepare them, to prevent injuries and then to treat injuries and to have them play as close to 100 percent as we can because without them, you have no team

.

Certainly sounds like Bill didn’t lose any sleep over the tragic deaths of Mike Webster, Junior Seau, and so many others “I’m not a doctor, blah, blah, blah …… ” What an unsympathetic mutant !!!

And as far as the pretty boy who happens to have a meaningless skill such as throwing a football, here are his words: “I don’t think about it at all. I’m not overly concerned…..” Can Tom Brady actually be that stupid ??? He fits the dumb jock stereotype like a glove.  One would think that he would have said something akin to ….well of course I’m concerned, but I can’t think about it while I’m playing because it would actually have a serious deleterious effect on my performance and my health overall.

Oh well, so WhaDaYaThink ? What do you think ? I think the commentary of these 2 football icons is prodigiously sad and pathetic.

What is the Story With George Zimmerman ???

September 9th, 2013 by Michael Tabor

zimmerman

I am 50 years old and have never been arrested in my entire life; this is the case one can only surmise for all or at least the majority of solid citizens who are law – abiding and choose not to break the law. George Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and all manslaughter charges on July 13, 2013 in one of the most notorious and celebrated trials in recent history and already he’s getting into trouble.

Mr. Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie (incidentally she’s planning on divorcing him now) is alleging that her husband threatened her while brandishing a knife as well as a firearm. I know that Zimmerman has not been indicted and certainly, legally speaking, this has no connection with the Trayvon Martin case but wow, this certainly raises a red flag in terms of what type of person Zimmerman is.

So, WhaDaYaThink ? What do you think? Does this latest incident make you think twice about whether or not the jury rendered the correct verdict in the aforementioned Martin case or do you suppose this was just an unconnected coincidence ???

The Manning Verdict Is a Complicated One And Now The Sentencing …

August 3rd, 2013 by Michael Tabor

Is Pfc. Bradley Manning a whistle – blowing hero/martyr or a traitor? Even if you think Manning is a “Benedict Arnold”, I think the not guilty verdict of “aiding the enemy” is a sound verdict and the correct one. Contrarily, bradley I also believe the presiding Judge, Col. Denise R. Lind, was right about the GUILTY verdicts regarding the other plethora of espionage charges – again, regardless if you think he is a hero or traitor.  Most people polled agree with the verdicts but what’s going to be prodigiously difficult, is the sentencing.

Private Bradley Manning released 100s of thousands of top – secret military and policy documents not to the New York Times, The Washington Post, nor to some of the other reputable news organizations, but rather he released this monumentally sensitive and classified  information to the highly questionable,  WikiLeaks for all the world to see, including such enemies as Al Qaeda. So, I think we all can agree upon the fact that Manning was stupid, naïve, and reckless and  obviously not just some innocent victim of our criminal justice system which the defense would lead you to believe that he, Private Bradley Manning was – just a guy who was outraged by the war atrocities committed in Iraq and Afghanistan. In fact there are many people out there who believe in the theory that he was an angry, bitter,  and resentful closeted (or was he openly gay ???) homosexual who wanted to get back at for one, his right – wing conservative father who incessantly berated him.

It’s all very confusing in terms of what Manning’s motivation was, but one thing that bothers and scares me is how it was possible for a low – level guy just like Snowden had 1. Access to all this classified and profoundly deleterious information that could have (according to the prosecution) potentially crippled the security of this nation and 2. Why was this so – called “top – secret” information so easily obtained??? This is a quote from Bradley Manning, which I find to be absolutely mind – boggling: “  I got this information and it was so easy, there were weak servers, weak logging, weak physical security, weak counterintelligence, and inattentive signal analysis.”

So, WhaDaYaThink ? What do you think ? Believe it or not, Judge Col. Denise R. Lind can sentence Pfc. Bradley Manning to 136 years – wow !!! Just think about it, if I had information about a “My Lai Massacre” and the government deemed that information “top – secret and classified” I could get a life sentence for revealing the unspeakable evil that the government of the United States is capable of.

“The Jury Finds The State of Florida Guilty For Allowing George Zimmerman To Carry A Gun”

July 13th, 2013 by Michael Tabor

zim2

Wouldn’t it be great if this were in fact a true statement ?

George Zimmerman should not be on trial and in an ideal world the irresponsible individuals who legislated the lax gun laws in Florida ought to be. George Zimmerman, a neighborhood security guard, and not even an officer of the law, was well within his rights to be armed with a gun and as a result a 17 year old boy, Trayvon Martin  is dead.

Furthermore, sadly, Mr. Zimmerman, 28, may be found guilty of second degree murder and have to spend a long time in prison because of careless and thoughtless law makers. Had this legislation not been on the books, which legally permitted Zimmerman to own and carry a gun, maybe the worst scenario we’d have on our hands is a street fight. So instead of maybe a bloody nose, some scrapes and bruises we have a dead boy and a young man who may have to remain in prison until he’s an old man.

This case is just another reason why we ought to ensure that we make gun control a priority in this country. So, WhaDaYaThink ? What do you think ? I earnestly don’t believe there is a man or woman in this country who hasn’t at one time or another become so enraged about something that for a split second  he or she has felt like killing someone over typically something inane and stupid. Fortunately, most people are not insanely paranoid and therefore we don’t usually feel compelled to arm ourselves to the teeth when going to our local supermarket.

Enjoy Your New Home – O.J.

July 11th, 2013 by Michael Tabor

I know there is a whole lot going on around the globe (here – the Zimmerman trial & privacy issues, etc. Internationally- Egypt and so much more)  and perhaps the O.J Simpson story is just old news, but I have to let everyone know that I am gloating over the 33 year prison term Simpson was slapped with for stealing sports memorabilia. God bless the judge, the Nevada parole board, etc. for handing down this otherwise draconian sentence had the individual not been O.J. Simpson.

Mr. Simpson is now 66 years old, looks absolutely awful, and he’s never going to get out of prison. This is poetic justice: Simpson viciously kills two young people and gets away with it, and then does something absolutely stupid like stealing baseball cards and for all intents and purposes gets a life sentence and will never see the light of day.

Here is a man who had absolutely everything and I mean everything i.e. fame, all the money in the world, famous friends, an amazing career as a player and a great life after his playing days and he couldn’t control his jealousy and his obsession with his ex – wife and well the rest is history.

So WhadaYaThink ? What do you think? This sort of reminds me of what we did to Al Capone. No we couldn’t nail Capone for murder and racketeering but we got him instead on tax evasion.
