Entertainment or Sport

May 16th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for trash talk mma

These days, just as important as your skills in Wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Striking, etc. is the art of ‘Shit Talking” or building up a fight. Connor McGregor and Jon Jones are the greatest fighters in the world, but not unlike Muhammed Ali, they know that the ENTERTAINMENT aspect of MMA is more important than the actual fight (sometimes – to be fair). MMA is bigger than ever because of these larger – than – life personalities. In the beginning, it used to be all about the martial arts and respect, now it’s all about denigrating your opponent with one’s mouth – before the actual fight.

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think? Hey, it’s what the average fan wants. I just hope it doesn’t turn into a circus like boxing and professional wrestling. I am terrified of fights being fixed and fighters getting title shots not based on merit and ability but shenanigans.  Oh, how can I neglect to mention the Diaz brothers? They have taken “Shit Talking” to a completely new level. Hey, but they’re no longer poor boys from Stockton, they’re multi-millionaires.

Tyler Talks Animal Planet

May 7th, 2017 by Magdalena Tabor

tyler

Hi, it’s me! Tyler! I’ll get right into it today, no pussy footing around.

Stephen Hawk King says if the human species is going to survive they need to colonize another planet in the next 100 years. First he said 1000 years, now it’s 100. This poses a problem right off the bat, this inconsistency with the number of years. After screwing up the earth in more ways than I can count on one paw (and I’m not a Hemingway cat, I only have 5 digits), they can’t even remotely estimate how long they have before they go and pollute another planet. One hundred years, give or take nine hundred. Hit it in the ballpark, okay?

Which brings me to my second point. They can’t even agree on Yankees and Red Sox let alone climate change. When push comes to shove, who gets to go to this pristine paradise and mess it up?

We all know the moon is inhabited by mice, right? There are huge craters dug by monster sized mice nibbling at the moon’s crust (I think it’s Limburger, nice and smelly like a good pair of old sneakers). I’d like to go there!  All cats should be sent to the moon!

There’s only one problem with that. Once all the mice have been eaten, who’s going to open that can of cat food? I propose we send one human along with all the cats to be our slave. Let’s face it. We don’t need a whole human species. One human bean is enough. But what if something happens to that one bean? Like he contracts ring worm from Saturn for instance? One can never be too careful. Okay, two then! Let’s make it two beans. One to open the can, the other to dispose of it. That’s all they can handle anyway. No, wait. We have to be responsible and recycle.  Can we use the same can over and over? If we do, what will be the function of the other bean? Can we get him to groom us? Does he appreciate the quality of a good brush?

As for all of the other animals on earth, let’s make a space age Noah’s Ark and get two of each species and blast them far enough away from the moon. They can all fend for themselves without so-called human intervention (as witnessed on planet Earth). That should satisfy animal advocates and fundamentalists alike.

It’s really sad, though. I’ll miss some things about Earth. All those birds and bugs I swat at and never seem to catch. I really don’t like the taste of mice that much. I’d much rather have a can of Fancy Feet, chicken’s my favorite. Wait! Hawk King said we have one hundred years, right? So I won’t be around anyway! And we won’t need a human to open that can, except for right now! So where’s Michael? Open that can of chicken and you can throw the empty can at Hawk King for all I care.

So……………whadayathink? Should humans venture into space and cause more chaos and corruption? Will they force aliens from their homeland and let Luke Skywalker open a casino? Will Das Trump Tower disappear from the skyline once and for all? And is it really constructed with millions of cans of Fancy Feet? Let’s get him to open a can! An instructional video should do the trick. He does have trouble reading. Is “chicken” too hard a word? Does he know one when he sees one? Do we trust him with this job?

Republicans Are Shameless Cowards

May 4th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for paul ryan is a selfish coward

I’ll begin this blog with a tweet by John Fugelsang: “Healthcare Republicans just took healthcare away from American children with cancer but it’s ok they’re so pro-life.

So the House achieves a NARROW victory by repealing Affordable Healthcare Act. 217 spineless Republicans in the House voted yes. In my heart of hearts, I don’t believe a single Republican who voted YES did so in good faith. Pandering, partisanship, and sheer cowardice prompted these sycophants to vote YES . Anyone and everyone who knows anything at all about the healthcare system in this country knows that a repeal of Obamacare will be absolutely disastrous to ALL living in this country. The consequences are unfathomably far-reaching.

I’m just going to itemize a few salient effects:

·        23 million people in this country will immediately lose coverage.

·        And of course the super-rich will get their huge tax cuts – somewhere along the lines of $195,000 – or a total of $2.8 billion and on the flip side, the poor and the middle class will lose tax cuts of around the same amount – $2.9 billion actually.

·        The Affordable Care Act and Universal coverage will be replaced with what our illiterate President says is “something terrific.”

·        Tens of thousands of people will DIE due to lack of access to medical care. The Trumps and everybody else in congress have no skin in the game. Their healthcare coverage is not in jeopardy + that juicy tax cut!!!

·        About 1.4 million young adults who are on their parents plan will be gone.

·        12.3 million people on Medicaid – also goodbye.

·        This is scary. The pre-existing condition ban will be lifted which will result in an estimated increase of 52 million more people uninsured.

·        Premiums invariably will skyrocket, as high as 50% within 1st year of repeal and doubling afterwards.

·        Here is something people don’t think about. No healthcare also = slashing jobs – about 2.6 million people currently working in the healthcare industry will be jobless.

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think? It’s not over yet, so be hopeful. It’s not going to be a cakewalk for the republicans to get it through the Senate.

The Irrationality of Nationalism

May 2nd, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for nationalism is stupid

The way I see it there are essentially three existential threats to our survival as a species:

1.     Climate Change.

2.     Nuclear War or Catastrophe.

3.     Artificial General Intelligence.

This growing trend of Nationalism, intolerance, and authoritarianism beginning with our simple-minded president is trending now and spreading throughout Europe.  This notion that America,  France or Austria are subordinating their best interests to outsiders is absurd.  We ought to be building NATO and economic unions not dismantling them. We must have cooperation, regulation, or some sort of governance on a global level if we’re going to evolve and flourish as a species in this day and age in light of these 3 very real aforementioned threats.

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think?

Shelly Kagan’s Lecture Series on Death

April 29th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for secularisation death and dying

If you’re secular and you dread the thought of death, then this is the lecture series to watch (provided you have time to watch all 26 lectures). I first saw this about 5 years ago and returned to watch it again and again in its entirety because for me, it taught me that if there is nothing after this life here on Earth, then there is absolutely nothing to be frightened of. I was truly liberated from that crippling fear of non-existence. I had never been happier in my life. But, 3 years ago I had an NDE (Near Death Experience) and I don’t know if it was a glimpse into the afterlife or a trauma-induced hallucination. (I’ll blog about my experience some day. Thus far I’ve been unable to put it into words.) So I’m back to square one again.

Nevertheless, I highly recommend this. Shelly Kagan covers everything here. Not only did he mitigate my fear of death, I learned how to better think like a philosopher when confronted with any difficult circumstance, situation or issue.

Must – see!!!

World Population Clock

April 28th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for world population

How do they actually know all this??? It’s all statistical analysis but it has been proven to be monumentally precise. I’m looking at the births and deaths just today – which is mind-boggling; About 2 births a second and 1 death per second. So if you really look at the big picture….well, we’re individually pretty small and insignificant.

Donald’s Reality

April 24th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for trump is a shameless liar

Trump is a pathological liar – everyone knows this. What’s disconcerting is that he’s not at all subtle about his tall tales. He is so despicably obnoxious and arrogant that he blatantly lies to 100’s of millions of people and he’s completely shameless about it. He truly is in his own little fantasy world – Donald Trump reality. Manboy Lies and doesn’t give a FUCK!!!  Check this list of outrageous fabrications and this is just in 3 months since he became president. https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2017/04/11/daniel-dales-donald-trump-fact-check-updates.html

Trump’s Steaks

April 17th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for trump the dunce

This Trump steak commercial is vintage “scam infomercial”. You know –  a guy reading a bullshit script to you at 2 am. Just think, this silly con man is now our president – lol. The writing of this commercial is soooooo laughable i.e “tremendous”, “greatest”, “nothing better”, “best of the best”,” Trump quality”, and the most hysterical part is when he states, not unlike a 5 year – old, that “…he knows best because steak is his favorite all-time food – lol. Prepare to laugh HARD.

WhaDaYaThink? What do you think? The same imbecilic, disjointed delivery is used when he addresses congress when he’s reading a teleprompter.

Myth: Separation of Chuch and State

April 14th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for separation of church and state

Wow – I’ve been citing “separation of church and state” from the Constitution ever since I can remember and the fact of the matter is it’s not worded that way. I was wrong all this time. The first Amendment simply states Freedom of Religion and there is an establishment clause that says that government shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. So it’s not necessarily anti-religion, rather it’s the government not sponsoring any “one type” of religion. INTERESTING!

Now considering myself a Universalist and no longer an Atheist or just a Christian for that matter, I feel better about our founding fathers. When I was in “atheist mode” I used to always pontificate about how the old-time framers of the Constitution were all really atheists. In fact, the opposite was probably true – they were believers of a sort. Check out this quote “A union of government and religion tends to destroy government and DEGRADE religion.

So WhaDaYaThink? What do you think ? I’m definitely not married to my positions, thoughts, beliefs, opinions, etc. I’d like to think of myself as an extremely open minded person weighing all the best evidence no matter where it leads. And true, though I was quite the strident atheist for some time, I now view the new atheists as quite frankly –ARROGANT and self-righteous in their own intellectually snobbery way! Arrogant in fact to a degree of a ranting and raving lunatic theologian. The truth is NOBODY knows – not the pope, not the new atheists, not Richard Dawkins, not Charles Darwin – NOBODY!!! Yes we now have quantum mechanics, string theory, Higgs Bosom and other science, but we still know virtually nothing about what consciousness is. That obviously leaves room for speculation about whether or not some sort of awareness survives the death of the physical body. I hope so anyway (but only if there’s no such thing as hell – lol. That scares the crap out of me. Those fucken nuns and priests ruined my life! They drilled that fiery hell stuff into my undeveloped child-brain and I STILL – at the age of 53 am terrified of eternal damnation. Don’t you think preaching eternal fiery hell to a child is tantamount to child abuse?)

Can Trump Actually be Another Hitler ???

April 14th, 2017 by Michael Tabor

Image result for trump hitler comparison 2017

Yesterday, I had a conversation with a very bright young man (pursuing his Ph.D. in Chemistry with a minor in German History, especially WWII, at Brown University) and I asked him pointedly if the Trump comparisons to Hitler were fair or just overblown rhetoric. He stated that not only were the similarities spot on, but the demagoguery is carbon copy. The good news is that for Trump to actually become a “Hitler-type” genocidal maniac would be virtually impossible for these reasons: 1. Though flawed, this country truly is a liberal democracy with all the checks and balances in place (congress, judiciary, media, etc.) 2. The U.S. is basically just too divided for him to pull off some sort of crazy majority rule. 3. Although many think that our economy is bad, Germany’s economy was unfathomably far worse (because instead of rebuilding Germany after WWI, we forced them to pay back reparations).  4. Trump would have to abolish the entire Constitution and establish a dictatorship, which is just not going to happen today in the United States – 2017. But having said that here is an uncanny laundry list of parallels:

1.     Both Trump, now, and Hitler, in the 1930’s, were viewed by most of the world as cartoonish caricatures of buffoonery. Nobody initially took Hitler seriously.  Remember Charlie Chaplain played Hitler in the satirical film ‘The Great Dictator’.  And well we now have SNL’s Alec Baldwin’s Trump impression… German historians still marvel at how Germany could have fallen for such a foolish man with a funny mustache. And we…well

2.     Both have their scapegoats: Hitler – Jews and communists and Trump – Mexicans and Muslims.

3.     Both EXTREME Nationalists i.e. Hitler – restore Germany to its prior greatness and Trump’s “Make America Great Again.’

4.     Both monomaniacally petty and vindictive.

5.     Both obsessed more with perception as opposed to facts and reality. Propaganda and lies are & were essential.

6.     Delusions of grandeur. Hitler believed as Trump now believes that they are the only human beings on the planet who could and would be able to “fix things. “Both demonize[d] “others” i.e. immigrants. (Exception for Trump is beautiful leggy East European super-models).

7.     Both obscenely vain, selfish, self-involved, and narcissistic.

8.     Both pursue[d] their twisted agenda even if it means/meant total self-destruction to themselves and to the nation as a whole.

9.     Both love[d] the maniacal adulation of the fanatics.

So there you go – 9 compelling similarities (I could probably think of more). One may ask – do you think Trump is actually genocidal and homicidal? My personal opinion is that if he’s confronted with an EXTREME situation (say a 9/11 event), I think he’s capable of unspeakable behavior and yes, atrocities.  WhaDaYaThink? What do you think? I pray for impeachment asap.
