Only Child

August 7th, 2014 by Magdalena Tabor

In the stillnessonly child
I heard your cry.
The birth of your arrival
Shattering the night.
I am here! you announced
From the depths of my soul.

And now that you are gone,
A clear empty aching
Heart of Mine,
I know you by your stillness,
By the echo
Of this empty chamber.
I find you
By sense alone.

You will always be in my heart.

I will miss you as long as I live, my sweet Isis.

Yes; you both are correct. We love our “fur” children more than most people could possibly imagine. They can’t understand the depth of the love we have for them, or the enormity of the pain when we lose them. They can’t appreciate the loyal and unquestionable love we get from them; I pity those people who think we’re the crazy ones.
I once remarked to a woman who had just lost her dog, what a shame it is that their life span is so short. She said something that while it still hurts to lose our “children”, I could understand what she meant. She said, she came to believe that “in general we have longer lives than our pets and I have come to the conclusion it’s because no one could care for them or love them as much as I do. No one would know how to care for them, in the manner to which our fur children are accustomed”. I know it doesn’t stop the pain, but as you both said, she’ll always be in your heart, and yes, you will miss her for all of your life. She knew you loved her.

Thank you, Chipster, for your kind thoughts. Michael remarked that we feel too deeply and therefore suffer as a result. I replied I would rather suffer than be insensitive. Isis touched us to our very core these twenty years. She was a treasure beyond words.
