The House With The Apple Green Stair

April 23rd, 2014 by Magdalena Tabor

I shall miss the housegreen stairs
With the apple green stair.
Though thought it ugly
At first,
I left the peculiar choice
Painted in sweeping strokes
Till a fondness was felt
For its oddity.
The bare footed creak
On the third step up
Answers like a pleading
“Don’t go”.

it’s the uniqueness that left it’s spot in your heart. May I ask where this Apple Green Staircase is?

Isn’t it true……………………… often it’s the oddity of a thing (or person) that stays in our hearts. I’m wondering, where is/or was your green staircase?

The apple green staircase was discovered when the carpeting was ripped up last year, leading down to the basement. My initial reaction was “ewww” and thought I’d repaint it. But the color, including the scuff marks left by previous residents’ years of climbing up and down, spoke to me.
