This Mayoral Race is Now a Freak Show

August 12th, 2013 by Michael Tabor

New York politics has always been an ugly business but this is now becoming a circus.  Anthony Weiner unbelievably called his rep. opponent, George McDonald – “grandpa” of all places at an AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) forum. Obviously, Weiner’s comment was outrageously inappropriate and indefensible; however all of his opponents won’t let the “sexting” scandal go.

We all know what Anthony Weiner did and he’s not dropping out of the race, so the candidates ought to just move on and start talking about real and important issues. Here’s the video of the exchange and as you can see it looks like they’re actually going to get into fisticuffs –  two grown men behaving like children.

So WhaDaYaThink ? What do you think ?

All of the current NYC mayoral candidates are pathetic, and what I find most dismaying is that one of these clowns is likely to be the next Mayor of the greatest city in the world. Sadly, I think this field merely reflective of the general aversion to politics shared by anyone who embodies such qualities as honor, humility and humanity. Hubris, shamelessness, and sufficient financial backing are now the litmus. I’m not naïve in believing such pre-requisites to ‘play the game’ weren’t always present; I’m just repulsed by how crassly they’re now required.

The toughest job in the world (next to President of the US) is mayor of NYC and in some ways is even tougher. Unless you have the sensibilities along with a good many other qualities to take on the enormous task set forth, don’t even bother. This position is no laughing matter and the future of the city/world depends on your expertise. I shudder at the choices of these so-called candidates and more so at the consequences should one of these assume the role. Is there no one of mayorial material to step up to the plate other than the Village Idiot?
