“The Jury Finds The State of Florida Guilty For Allowing George Zimmerman To Carry A Gun”

July 13th, 2013 by Michael Tabor

Wouldn’t it be great if this were in fact a true statement ?

George Zimmerman should not be on trial and in an ideal world the irresponsible individuals who legislated the lax gun laws in Florida ought to be. George Zimmerman, a neighborhood security guard, and not even an officer of the law, was well within his rights to be armed with a gun and as a result a 17 year old boy, Trayvon Martin  is dead.

Furthermore, sadly, Mr. Zimmerman, 28, may be found guilty of second degree murder and have to spend a long time in prison because of careless and thoughtless law makers. Had this legislation not been on the books, which legally permitted Zimmerman to own and carry a gun, maybe the worst scenario we’d have on our hands is a street fight. So instead of maybe a bloody nose, some scrapes and bruises we have a dead boy and a young man who may have to remain in prison until he’s an old man.

This case is just another reason why we ought to ensure that we make gun control a priority in this country. So, WhaDaYaThink ? What do you think ? I earnestly don’t believe there is a man or woman in this country who hasn’t at one time or another become so enraged about something that for a split second  he or she has felt like killing someone over typically something inane and stupid. Fortunately, most people are not insanely paranoid and therefore we don’t usually feel compelled to arm ourselves to the teeth when going to our local supermarket.

Sadly once again it’s more a matter of personal responsibility than state law. No matter how you look at it, Zimmerman blatantly abused the privilege of owning or carrying a gun. Even in a state like Florida, which is a “Stand Your Ground” state, the intent is that the gun is to be used “only if necessary to defend oneself in the face of inescapable danger”, this was not the case with Zimmerman. This idiot was on tape with 911 telling them “these people always get away with it” and then proceeded to follow Trayvon Martin. He wasn’t in “inescapable danger”, the idiot ignored the police and chased down Trayvon Martin; that is by definition NOT inescapable danger. He was told by the police on the tape “TO STAY IN YOUR CAR AND DON’T FOLLOW, WE WILL BE THERE”, yet Zimmerman took it upon himself to play a cop (or worse yet, an “Enforcer” of what he believed the laws should be, not what they truly are. I’m not saying Trayvon Martin was innocent, I wasn’t there and wouldn’t presume to know what happened, but what is known is that Zimmerman acted as a vigilante and totally ignored the police officers warnings to not follow and let them do their job. Based on this knowledge, Zimmerman is definitively GUILTY.

    Hi Chip,

That’s the story in a nutshell. We shall see what happens….

  3. Chip Says:

Oh the irony Michael, that your piece on Tryvon Martin and George Zimmerman follows your piece on O.J. Simpson. You responded to my reply “We shall see what happens”. Well Michael, it’s July 14th and we indeed see what has happened. I awake to find that our wonderful judicial system has once again been hyjacked: Zimmerman has been exonerated from all charges and is a free man, while someones teenage son is DEAD, simply because he was walking in a community and happened to be seen by a man armed with a gun who believed the young man “didn’t belong there” and this man elected to ignore the police warnings NOT to follow him and let the police do their job.
To say I’m disgusted and disillusioned is a mild understatement. I guess this proves a few points: #1 do what you want and to heck with the law, #2 whatever you do, make sure it’s high profile, #3 whoever has the better attorney wins (bear in mind that Zimmerman didn’t pay for his own defense, as soon as he was arrested he had a website collecting money for his defense.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, despite that our judicial system is better than others around the world………… still stinks to high heaven. I have witnessed far too many obvious flaws and favoritism in the judicial system that favor the wrong party and it has happened again. God help us all should we ever need the system.

You know what’s weird Chip is that 90 % of the people on Facebook were happy that Zimmerman got off – I mean they were elated. The people (except for my family and friends on there) are just a bunch of racist Yahoos. However, having said that, it’s my fault for allowing people I don’t even know to access my circle of friends – the motivation was simply to expand the readership of this blog. But what happens is they insert their comments on FB and not here, so Zuckerberg and company get rich and I remain poor – lol. The greatest social media site by far is LinkedIn – now there you will find intelligent people with thoughtful and incisive things to say.

The whole case is just tragic. I mean Zimmerman should have @ least gotten manslaughter – Jeez.

    Our Mayor shares my sentiments

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg issued a statement that put the onus on gun laws.

  6. Michael Tabor Says:

In a nutshell here’s what Mayor Bloomberg said:

Sadly, all the facts in this tragic case will probably never be known. But one fact has long been crystal clear: ‘shoot first’ laws like those in Florida can inspire dangerous vigilantism and protect those who act recklessly with guns,” Bloomberg said. “Such laws – drafted by gun lobby extremists in Washington – encourage deadly confrontations by enabling people to shoot first and argue ‘justifiable homicide’ later.”

  7. Rick Says:

The fact is Florida has a stand your ground law period. Protests throughout the country but not much in Florida. People like the law in Florida. Making this a race issue is a joke. If Zimmermans last name was Hernandez it wouldnt be an issue. Since he has his fathers name and not his mothers name it is. Please. There are so many black on white crimes, so many latino on black, so many white on latino and on and on. Wheres the protest for them. The rest of the country wants Florida to have their laws. I live in Florida for its freedom. Freedom from high taxes, freedom from income taxes, freedom to stand my ground, freedom to eat what I want(Bloomberg is a nanny). If your head was getting slamed into the ground you would want the same right. If you don’t your pretty stupid. I would pick Florida over New York anyday.

  8. Rick Says:

Oh and PS to all you gun haters. I don’t own a gun., but if I want one I don’t want anyone telling me I can’t have one.

  9. Rick Says:

One more thing, yes Zimmerman thought he should confront the problem. It ultimately should have been called into the police, but that gives no right for someone to throw a fist. Thats truly what started it. I tought my kids to be respectful and to not fight and guess what. They didn’t get shot because they didn’t start fights especially with kids or in this case adults.
